Babies run the show when it comes to newborn sessions, and that is why it is so important to cater to them leading up to your session.
“Like stars are to the sky, so are the children to our world. They deserve to shine!”– Chinonye J. Chidolue
Tip #1 – Giving the bottle at the right time!
So you want all of those sleepy squishy photos, but not sure what to do to ensure your tiny human will cooperate? First in line for tips and tricks is when to feed!
When baby is fed can have a huge impact on their mood at their session. Giving a bottle right before your session is best, about 25-35 minutes prior to starting, including travel time to the studio. If you have a commute of an hour or more, waiting to feed baby until you arrive will probably be best!
Tip #2 – A bath
Rub-A-Dub-Dub! This can be both a sweet intimate moment for you both. Getting ready for a photo session can be hectic, and this makes it possible to just slow down and breathe in that newborn smell!
After you have fed them, you can give baby a full water bath or just a wet wash cloth. This helps wake baby up and get all that energy out prior to picture time.
Tip #3 – No tight clothing
Those adorable little socks and mittens are so easy to love! But now is not the time. Put the bonnet in the diaper bag, and step away mom. Try to avoid pulling anything over head.
You should keep baby in their diaper and cover with blankets in the car seat. This gets their body accustom to not being clothed, which creates an easier transition in studio.
There are no guarantees of course, because those cuties just love to surprise us. However, these tricks should help to create a positive experience for both you and baby 🙂
